Let’s not do dinner
Belinda Humphries
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, high tea, low tea, morning tea, brunch. What about elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, supper, and as any self-respecting Lord of the Rings fan will be asking right about now, “What about second breakfast?”
In many cultures eating has had a bit of a paradigm shift from fuelling our bodies, as it did back in caveman days, to being a social event.
Nowadays, it varies from the basic end of the scale, also known as dinner-time at my place which involves standing in my kitchen, book in hand, munching on my personal trainer-instructed chicken delight. As opposed to the other end of the scale - my girlfriend Sarah so eloquently described our recent experience at Tetsuya’s as “dining as theatre”.
Lately, I’m finding I am having more catch-ups with friends over breakfast . It’s quickly becoming my favourite meal to eat out. To me, it’s so lovely and comforting to start a Saturday morning with coffee and eggs on toast with loved ones.
So my question is, what is your favourite meal to eat out?
Breakfast is my favourite - hands down! Everyone is more alert in the morning (or at least after the first coffee) and a catchup with friends sets the scene for the rest of the day.

Definitely a degustation !!

Definantly breakfast - people are more relaxed and casual. Breakfast is a more spir of the moment as you walk down the stairs from the gym sit in your gym gear in the plaza kind of thing.
Dinner is more “ugh gotta get dressed to go out” kind of formalish. Even if its supposed to be a casual get together at the local you still spend ages thinking over what to wear.
